Mount Rinjani Summit Trek 3-Day (Via Sembalun to Torean Route)

4.5 (booked)

Details

This 3-day, 2-night trek is one of the most scenic and rewarding ways to explore Mount Rinjani—Indonesia’s second-highest volcano and a true gem of Lombok’s landscape. Perfect for seasoned hikers, this route begins in Sembalun village (1,100m), known for its wide savannahs and expansive views, and ends in Torean village, an increasingly popular route hailed as the “New Zealand of Indonesia” for its dramatic valley cliffs, waterfalls, and lush river trails.

On Day 1, you’ll cross five steep hills through the Sembalun grasslands before setting up camp at the Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639m). Here, you'll catch a glorious sunset and prepare for the next day’s summit push. The following morning begins early at 2:00 a.m. as you climb up a steep and rocky ridge in darkness to reach the Rinjani Summit (3,726m) by sunrise—an epic moment that rewards you with 360° panoramic views of Lombok, Bali, Sumbawa, and the stunning Segara Anak Lake below.

After summiting, you’ll descend into the Rinjani caldera to soak in the natural hot springs and relax by the serene lake before continuing the trek. On Day 3, instead of ascending again to the Senaru rim, you’ll exit via the Torean trail, which winds along lush jungle paths, riverbanks, and cliffside ridges. Along the way, you’ll encounter hidden waterfalls, mossy canyon walls, and natural tunnels carved by the river—making this one of the most beautiful and least strenuous descent routes on the mountain.

This trek offers the perfect balance of challenge, scenery, and reward—ideal for hikers with a solid fitness level and limited time. With professional guides, full camping support, and breathtaking nature from summit to valley, the Sembalun–Torean route is a bucket-list-worthy adventure you’ll never forget.
